Mit «Lonely Island» veröffentlicht die schweizerisch-polnisch-japanische Musikerin Yumi Ito ihr erstes Soloalbum – und zugleich ihr bislang persönlichstes Werk. Reduziert auf Stimme und Klavier, zwei Instrumente, die sie seit Kindheitstagen begleiten, entstand ein intimes Klangporträt. Im Zentrum beider Instrumente steht die Improvisation. Als klassisch ausgebildete Pianistin, die mit der Suzuki-Methode aufwuchs, schöpft Yumi Ito dabei aus einem Leben des hörenden Lernens.
Zehn Stücke, die Ito über Jahre hinweg begleitet haben, und die sie selbst auf eine einsame Insel mitnehmen würden, erscheinen auf «Lonely Island» in neuem Licht – Songs wie «What Seems To Be», «Old Redwood Tree» oder «Stardust Crystals», verdichtet und auf das Wesentliche reduziert. Was bleibt, ist pure Essenz: Musik voller Wärme, Tiefe und Ehrlichkeit.

Die Stimme ist gereifter und nuancierter denn je, trifft auf ein erzählerisches Klavierspiel, das nicht begleitet, sondern mitgestaltet. So spielt «Old Redwood Tree» mit meditativen 13/8-Ostinati und impressionistischen Akkorden, «Tiki Taka» bringt brasilianische Elemente ein. In der neuen Version von «What Seems to Be» übernimmt Ito zudem die solistische Rolle des einstigen Saxofons oder verwandelt auf anderen Stücken über das Klavier frühere Harfen- und Gitarrenparts in neue Klangbilder. Ein spielerischer wie virtuoser Perspektivwechsel.
Stellenweise klingt der Sound nach Debussy oder Ravel, dann erinnert er an Norah Jones, Fiona Apple oder Tori Amos. Und immer wieder blitzen Filmmusik-Vibes à la Ólafur Arnalds auf. Die Musik flirrt, flimmert, flüstert. Und lässt vergessen, dass alles von einer einzigen Person live eingespielt wurde.
Aufgenommen wurde «Lonely Island» von Lara Persia im Lemura Studio in Montagnola (Tessin, Schweiz), eingebettet in der Natur. Am künstlerischen Prozess waren fast ausschließlich F(L)INTA-Personen beteiligt, von der Musikproduktion bis zum Design. Die Solo-Platte ist damit auch ein Zeichen für Sichtbarkeit und solidarisches Schaffen.

«Lonely Island» schließt einen Kreis und markiert gleichzeitig einen Neubeginn. Die Platte ist ein Rückzug und zugleich eine Öffnung, hin zu neuen Wegen, neuen Stimmen. So ist für 2026 das nächste Album angekündigt, aufgenommen mit Band. Und eine internationale Tour durch Europa, Asien sowie Nord- und Südamerika ist geplant. Bis dahin lädt Yumi Ito mit «Lonely Island» auf ihre persönliche Insel ein: zu sich selbst, zu ihrer Musik, und zu uns selbst.

Yumi Ito erschafft mit Stimme und Klavier musikalische Welten, die sämtliche Grenzen überwinden. Die schweizerisch-polnisch-japanische Musikerin gilt als eine der spannendsten Stimmen der europäischen Szene. Ihre Musik lebt zwischen Art-Pop, Jazz und Neoklassik, durchdrungen von Improvisation, Intuition und einer tief persönlichen Ausdruckskraft. Als ob Tori Amos und Norah Jones mit Ólafur Arnalds Filmmusik zu einem Debussy-Biopic geschrieben hätten.
Die internationalen Bühnen bilden Yumi Itos Zuhause, sowohl solo als auch mit ihrer Band um Alessio Cazzetta (g), Nadav Erlich (kb) und Iago Fernández (dr): Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), Blue Note Jazz Festival (US), Euro-Venezuelan Jazzfestival (VE) sind wichtige Referenzen auf einer langen Liste an zumeist ausverkauften Konzerten. Kollaborationen mit Mark Turner, Becca Stevens oder Al Jarreau zeugen von ihrer Vielseitigkeit, Projekte mit Sarah Chaksad und weiteren Schweizer Artists von einem guten lokalen Spirit im Zeichen des Zusammenhalts.
«Stardust Crystals» (2020) wurde von Jazz thing und Bandcamp als eines der besten Alben des Jahres gelistet. «Ysla» (2023) knüpfte mit breitem Medienecho und Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt an diese Erfolge an. SWR2 Jazz kürte Yumi Ito zur «vokalen Entdeckung des Jahres» und nach einer Einladung zum jazzahead! European Showcase im vergangenen Jahr stehen bald weitere Meilensteine an: «Lonely Island» bildet Yumi Itos erstes Soloalbum und erscheint 2025. 2026 folgt ein neues Werk mit ihrer Band, eine Tour ist zudem in Planung. Musik für Menschen, denen Welten gelten.
