Szwajcarsko-polsko-japońska wokalistka, kompozytorka i pianistka Yumi Ito od dawna zachwyca umiejętnością zacierania granic między gatunkami i kulturami. Na najnowszym albumie Lonely Island, sięga po najprostsze środki wyrazu. Po raz pierwszy w karierze Ito występuje całkowicie solo – tylko głos i fortepian – tworząc odkrywczy, niezwykle osobisty album.
Lonely Island ukaże się 19 września nakładem wytwórni Enja Yellowbird.
„Chciałam stworzyć album, który brzmi jak koncert w salonie” – mówi Ito. „Tak, jakby słuchacz siedział obok mnie. Szczerze, intymnie, bez żadnych filtrów”.
Nagrany w położonym w ustronnym miejscu studiu w szwajcarskim Ticino i wyprodukowany wyłącznie przez F(L)INTA Creatives (niemiecki akronim oznaczający kobiety, lesbijki, osoby interpłciowe, niebinarne, transpłciowe i agenderowe), Lonely Island jest portretem radykalnej bliskości.
Czerpiąc z klasycznego muzycznego wykształcenia, jazzowej improwizacji i długoletniej praktyki nauki ze słuchu (zaczętej w dzieciństwie metodą Suzuki), Ito na nowo interpretuje dziesięć własnych kompozycji, które towarzyszyły jej przez lata – utworów, które, jak twierdzi, zabrałaby na bezludną wyspę. Wśród nich są: medytacyjne „Old Redwood Tree”, impresjonistyczne „Stardust Crystals” oraz przekształcona wersja „What Seems To Be”, w której oryginalne partie saksofonu zastępuje własnym głosem i fortepianem.
W efekcie powstała muzyka, która pulsuje i mieni się odcieniami przywołującymi na myśl twórczość Debussy’ego, Nory Jones, Ólafura Arnaldsna czy też Tori Amos. Pobrzmiewają w niej echa impresjonizmu, brazylijskich rytmów i filmowych pejzaży. Całość nagrana została w formule ‘live”, tworząc delikatny świat dźwięków, który przyciąga słuchacza każdą pojedynczą frazą.
„Lonely Island“ jest zarówno powrotem do korzeni, jak i otwarciem się na nowe kierunki. Osadzony w improwizacji i prowadzący słuchacza przez osobistą opowieść album, otwiera nowy rozdział w trudnej do zaszufladkowania karierze artystki. Na 2026 rok zaplanowano płytę z pełnym składem i międzynarodową trasę. Na solowym albumie Ito prezentuje natomiast minimalistyczną, najbardziej intymną i poruszającą wersję swojej muzyki.
